Puppy Mill Rescue - Our new Adventure

On August 14, 2007 Chihuahua & Small Dog Rescue, Inc. rescued 17 dogs from puppy mills in Missouri.  They came from three different puppy mills.  These little ones are not ready for adoption yet, but we would like to share with you their adventure.  As they are ready for adoption we will move them to Our Furry Friends page.

We like to thank Downtown Animal Care Center for all their after hours help in assessing the health condition of each little one that came in and to allow us to come in and bath them all.  The following pictures where taken the night that the little ones arrived.

Our volunteers and staff of Downtown Animal Care Center, giving baths, nail trims, health checks on the night that all of these little ones arrival.

Now that we are all clean, fed and watered we are ready for our first nights sleep in Colorado.  Downtown Animal Care Center allowed us to spend the night here so we didn't need to be moved again, just to come back in the morning for our spays and neuters in the morning.  We are looking forward to starting our new life.  Some of us are not feeling well, but we are going to start feeling better shortly.  We have been told we are going to our foster homes tomorrow evening (August 15, 2007) and we will have soft blankets and pillows.  No more dirty kennels and bad conditions for us.

Celica (female) #07135

This little girl's name is Celia and she is called "CC" at her foster home. She is a very shy little girl and is not sure what to think just yet. CC came from a puppy mill in Missouri and was there to breed for her puppies. She is a great dog and knows how to potty outside already. CC loves to lay in the grass and play with the other dogs at the house. CC has shown no issues at her foster home other than she needs a little more time to get used to people. She will sleep in her kennel at night or on the bed! CC has been around a few kids and keeps her distance from all people right now.

CC is going to make huge progress in the next few weeks and is taking cookies out of her foster mom's hands right now, which is a huge step! CC is going to make a great family pet when she understands that she is safe! Please take a good look at me and how I would fit into your family!

Mandy (female) #07136

My name is Mandy. I am 10 years old and weigh about 7lbs. I am one of the lucky dogs that made it out of a puppymill! So far, I love other dogs and especially love the big dog that is my foster sister. I am very scared of people, but I like to sit and watch TV with the family and am getting braver everyday! When I am ready for adoption, I will need a quiet home that can apprec iate the love of an older gal like me.

Margo (female) (adoption pending) #07137

Margo is a 6 year old long hair Chihuahua who likes the company of other dogs and be part of the pack. When I take her out right after I wake up, she will go potty outside. Sometimes she will have an "accident" between walks, but can hold it most of the time. I don't know how she is with cats of children, have never exposed her to them. She is still scared when approaching to pet her, but once you do she is OK. She is not a very active dog, in part due to her age and in part to her heart murmur. She is doing much better now that the temperatures have cooled down, but still coughs during the day, especially when excited (because I am back, after barking at sounds at the door, when we are preparing to go outside, or when scared).

Our foster parents are working with us every day.  We are just taking a little longer than the rest of our puppy mill mates.  As you can see, a group of us are ready for adoption and have been moved to the available page, but we are still not ready to go to our forever homes.  We are getting better every day.

Bios and updated pictures will come as we are ready for our forever homes.  It is going to take a little bit, but we are excited to start our new lives.  August 16, 2007 was our first full day of our new lives in warm loving homes, we are now in our foster homes.

All of us would like to ask you to please donate to Chihuahua and Small Dog Rescue, Inc. Our vet bills are going to be high and they need your help, as much as we needed theirs.
